Cannabis in Canadian Workplaces: 2018 Update and Need-to-Know

The legalization of recreational marijuana is having a massive impact on workplaces across Alberta.  The increased prevalence of marijuana raises a variety of concerns for employers including with respect to productivity, reputation and, of course, safety. This session will analyze the framework for legalization with emphasis on the effect of legalization on Alberta workplaces. Our session will assist employers in developing a framework for how to appropriately address issues arising from legalization in the context of the management of employees, with emphasis on policy creation and best practices with respect to occupational health and safety.

Wilson Chan

Wilson is an experienced litigator who has focused his practice on all aspects of the employee-employer relationship. This includes conducting workplace investigations, advising employers on workplace law and representing companies in wrongful dismissal claims, workers’ compensation and OH&S matters, labour board and grievance arbitrations and human rights and privacy complaints.

Wilson is experienced in trial, appellate and arbitral work and has successfully appeared before the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta, and a number of quasi-judicial bodies.
